Artist Statement

With experimentation at the base of my process I give faces to emotions and experiences that are faceless. Personifying the ideas and stories that are intertwined with our lives. I am fascinated by the depth of the imagination. By giving its ephemeral qualities a presence I hope to encourage reflection and amazement.

Prophet-2021

I paint the things that interest me. Ideas that persist through time and culture. Belief and spirituality are a few of those ideas. In classical religious painting a figure could be seen with a finger to the sky, symbolizing a connection with a higher power. Prophet is my take on this classic motif.

Garbage Man-2020

My process embraces spontaneity. Reminiscent of the abstract expressionists like DeKooning I mix elements of abstraction and figuration. It frees the flow of expression and gives my work the immediacy Iā€™m after. And it's messy, hence garbage.

Powerful Ideas-2020

I see the importance in painting virtues. If art elevates reality it should do just that. Powerful ideas are ones that nurture growth and positivity. Art is an amazing way to highlight the change you'd like to see in the world. If I can in any way inspire others I've done a great thing.

Outlook-2021

Nature has had a great influence on my life and work. In the woods and the studio there is freedom, peace, and creation. As an artist I transform the beauty I see in the world around me.
